Most bandsaw blades treat a nail as an accident. A palletband blade treats it as part of the shift. Dismantling saws take pallets apart by sawing between the deck boards and the stringers, straight through whatever nails and staples hold them together, so every blade in this category carries hardened, nail-resistant teeth on a band tough enough to take that impact over and over.
The family comes in two builds. Saw37C Palletband puts those hardened teeth on a carbon band, the economical default for typical dismantling work. Saw37B M42 Palletband carries an M42 bi-metal edge that holds its sharpness longer in fast, high-impact lines and heavily nailed stock. Both cut the same reclaimed timber; the difference is how many nail strikes the edge absorbs before the cut tells you it is time to change.
Either way, blade life depends on nail density, so recyclers run palletband as a consumable with scheduled changes. We weld every band to your machine's exact loop length, and reordering the same length takes a minute.
The nail-strike duty cycle
Nail strikes are the whole specification. Understanding what a strike does to a tooth explains why this category exists and how to budget for it.
Watch a standard wood blade meet its first nail and the damage is immediate. The tooth arrives at full band speed, and an edge shaped for slicing timber fibre suddenly has to shear steel. Tips chip or fold, the set is knocked out of the damaged section and every following tooth inherits a bigger bite than it was pitched for. A blade that would have ripped clean softwood all week strips in minutes on a dismantling saw.
A palletband blade survives because the tooth is prepared for the hit. The edge is hardened to shear soft steel fixings rather than crumble against them, and it sits on a backing tough enough to soak up interrupted, hammering contact. It still pays a price for every strike: no edge stays sharp through repeated steel contact. The difference is that a palletband tooth wears gradually and keeps cutting, where a standard tooth breaks and takes its neighbours with it.
Blade life on a dismantling line is measured in nail strikes, not weeks on the machine.
That reality changes how you buy. Blade life is set by nail density, not hours run, so a heavily nailed batch shortens the cycle and a clean batch stretches it. Recyclers who run smoothly treat palletband as a consumable: change blades on schedule before cut quality drops, keep welded spares by the saw and count blade cost per pallet rather than per band.

What palletband blades cut

Choosing pitch and width

Keep 4 to 24 teeth in the cut
The working rule for any bandsaw blade: at least 4 teeth in the workpiece so the band does not snatch, no more than 24 so each tooth still bites and the gullets clear. Measure the deepest cut your saw makes, usually through the stringer, and pick the pitch that stays inside that window.
Coarser pitch clears the mess
Dismantling produces mixed swarf: wood chip, nail fragments and grit. Fewer, bigger teeth carry bigger gullets that carry the mixture out of the cut instead of packing it in, which is why this family's published pitch options sit at the coarse end of the scale.
Run the width the machine tensions
Width buys a straight line through interrupted, hammering cuts, but only when the band is tensioned properly. Fit the published width your wheels and guides handle comfortably and let the machine plate set the ceiling, not ambition.
