Why sawmill and resaw blades come first
Sawmill and resaw blades are the working heart of a timber operation. They are wide, thick-gauge bands made in long lengths, built to convert logs in primary breakdown on headrigs and horizontal mills and then to resaw deep sections accurately on single and multi-head machines. Where yield and cut count decide profitability, the beam strength of a wide band keeps the cut straight through the log. A stable cut means more sellable board from every stem.
Two neighbouring ranges earn a place alongside them. Carbon steel blades put hardened teeth on an economical band: the hardback pattern is hardened through the back as well, giving the beam strength that straight, deep ripping under feed pressure demands. Bi-metal blades weld a high speed steel edge, commonly M42 or M51, onto a fatigue-resistant alloy backing; in a mill they earn their keep on abrasive or gritty timber that blunts carbon teeth quickly, keeping blade changes down through a shift.

Primary breakdown on the headrig
Opening up logs is heavy duty for any band. The band runs long cuts through bark, knots and whatever grit the log carries. Any wander at the headrig is repeated in every board downstream. Resawing cants into boards
Once the log is opened, profit is decided at the resaw. Cants and flitches go in and boards come out. The difference between a good week and a poor one is how accurately and how thinly the band cuts. Boards that need less sanding
Some of a mill's output goes straight to customers who judge it by the sawn face. A band that deflects in the cut leaves ridges and bow that someone downstream has to sand or plane out.
